How many sessions will I need?
There is no one-size-fits-all when it comes to therapy. Many people are aware that 6 sessions are often what is offered by the NHS. This would be classed as short-term therapy, and therefore, those looking to explore things on a deeper level may well want to have more. There is no right or wrong number of sessions to have, and I would encourage you to be guided by what feels right for you.
What happens if I don’t know what to say?
Not knowing where to begin in your therapy is completely normal – my role is to be directed by you, but also to support you, so I will help you as best as I can if you feel stuck. It is also normal to feel nervous before or during your session, so please be reassured that nerves, or not knowing what to say do not mean you’re getting it ‘wrong’.
I’m worried about the cost of therapy, what are my options?
Therapy is expensive, there’s no two ways around it. Some clients opt for fortnightly sessions in order to spread the cost. I also offer a reduced rate of £45 per session for those on low income, so please ask whether you would qualify for this. You may wish to pause your sessions and pick up again at a later date when finances feel more comfortable – taking a break from therapy will not ‘undo’ any work we have already done.
How do I find you and is there parking?
I understand this question can often be the most anxiety provoking (I worry about these things too!) I will provide you with clear instructions of where do find my room and how to gain access to the building. On your first session I will come out and meet you and we will walk together to my room. There is a car park on site, with free parking.
Can I swear during my session?
Absolutely – sometimes only a swear word will do. I invite my clients to express themselves in any way that feels comfortable and natural to them.
What if I’m early or late for a session?
I won’t be able to see you before your allotted time, however, if you are 5 minutes or so early you are welcome to sit in the waiting area. If you are late for your session, please don’t worry, I will wait for you to arrive and we will carry on your session for whatever time is remaining.
What happens if I decide the therapy isn’t right for me?
I would encourage you to discuss with me anything that isn’t working for you, as we may be able to adjust things to better suit your needs. However, I will always respect and support your decision if you wish to end the therapy work – you will not hurt my feelings. Your gut instincts know what’s best for you.
